Construction: The 2025 Roof Project and Expanding the Campus to 924. S. Boulder

Construction at the Cathedral

Holy Family Cathedral’s three towers are an iconic part of the Tulsa skyline.

From now until December 2025, workers will install a new copper roof on the Cathedral. Scaffolding will encompass the church from the lower parts of the roof to the tops of the crosses.

The Father’s Day storm of 2023 dealt significant damage to the three spires and the lower roof. Cathedral Rector Father Brian O’Brien and the church’s finance council have chosen Executive Exteriors to begin repairs.

  • Scaffolding is great, but how do workers get up there?
Scaffolding is enclosing the lower parts of the Cathedral with the goal of going all the way to the tops of the spires. When completed, roofers will remove the copper foil wrapped shingles and install solid copper shingles. How do workers get the shingles to the spires? An elevator arrived today. It will attach to…
  • Choir Loft Project: The Pipe Organ looks as good as it sounds
The organ case holds the organ pipes in place. It has been largely untouched since the pipe organ’s installation in 1984. Painters primed the surface for some new paint – green, red, and gold colors found elsewhere in the Cathedral. Painters finished the south organ case last week. They are working on the other side…
  • Construction Update: Scaffolding is growing
Two more truckloads of scaffolding arrived this morning from the supplier in Forth Worth, Texas. Scaffolding is going up rapidly and safely. Every worker wears a safety hardness to protect him from falls as they add platforms and ladders to the structure of the scaffolding. Thank you, parishioners, for being understanding as the Cathedral’s accessibility…
  • Construction Update: Overhead Protection for Pedestrians & the First Day of the Choir Loft renovation
Safety is important. Workers laid steel I-beams over the scaffolding along Boulder Avenue. They placed sheets of plywood over the beams to protect pedestrians from any possible falling debris from the spires. The workers will continue around the north side of the church and will leave walkways for parishioners to enter the church or the…
  • How do I enter the lower level? Welcome to the North Entrance
How do we enter the Auditorium? How do I get to my meeting in the Halpine Room? Use the north entrance. It’s on the north side of the campus along Eighth Street. Your ministry leader will be standing at the door ready to greet you. At no point will that door be unlocked or…
  • Construction Update for June 18, 2025: Scaffolding work begins
Workers are beginning to erect the scaffolding today. Scaffolding will eventually completely enclose the Cathedral so that roofers can replace the copper shingles from the tops of the crosses down to the lower roof.   Does this work impact Sunday Masses? No, all Masses will go ahead as usual. You may enter…
  • How does construction affect parking?
When you come to Mass on Saturday or Sunday, there are several places to park. Street parking is free on weekends. The highlighted lots across the street from the school and south of the school are available. The “west” or “back” parking lot behind the school is a staging area for the Roof Project. The…
  • Hard Hats and Safety Vest areas: what’s off limits?
As more deliveries of scaffolding arrive, it is stacked in the “west” or “back” parking lot behind the school building. Construction crews will store all of their equipment there. The entire parking lot is closed to the public. The sports court is closed. The school and church is accepting deliveries to the front doors on…

This week will see the delivery of much of the scaffolding that will be used in the roof project. The parking lot behind the school continues to be closed to public use until the roof is complete. Why does Holy Family need a new roof? The Fathers Day storm of 2023 did some significant damage…

  • Father O’Brien: Repairing the Roof
A Note from Cathedral Rector Father Brian O’Brien As many of you have noticed, and as I’ve mentioned from the beginning of my time here (I talked about it in my first homily in July 2024), Holy Family Cathedral needs a new roof.  The roof was heavily damaged during the Fathers Day Storm of 2023….

Being a Brahmanist, even I can perceive this phenomenon. The enemy of my enemy(Wokeism) is my friend. It’s refreshing to see that there are still houses of worship in the Tulsa area that have instead chosen to shape the culture instead of accommodate it. Keep up the good work.
