Construction Update: Overhead Protection for Pedestrians & the First Day of the Choir Loft renovation

Safety is important.

Workers laid steel I-beams over the scaffolding along Boulder Avenue. They placed sheets of plywood over the beams to protect pedestrians from any possible falling debris from the spires.

The workers will continue around the north side of the church and will leave walkways for parishioners to enter the church or the lower level from the north side.

The Choir Loft

The Cathedral’s choir loft has remained largely untouched since the 1984 installation of the pipe organ. During that project, platform risers were built above the previous flat floor of the loft.

The organ case, the panels that enclose the pipes, was originally stained wood and matched the pews and doors in the church. The case was painted off-white during the Cathedral’s 1974 renovation. The 2009-2010 renovation included the repainting of the interior of the church, but the organ case remained the same off-white from the earlier renovation.

Painters have begun sanding the organ case to prepare it for painting.
