Having completely enclosed the central spire in scaffolding, roofers have stripped the old copper-foil shingles from the spire. They have added wooden decking over the existing metal decking. They placed a waterproof and heatproof membrane over the decking.

The next step is installing new solid copper shingles and fixtures.
