Holy Family Cathedral & Classical School expands campus with acquisition of 924 S. Boulder property
Dear Parishioners of Holy Family Cathedral,
As the parish and school continue to grow and to reach more people with the Good News of Jesus Christ and His Church, our need for space has also grown. From doubling the size of our parish in the last six years to growing the school by over 100 students in the last year, we need room to grow.
I’m pleased to share that Holy Family Cathedral’s first land acquisition in a generation took place today. For several months we’ve been looking at the property formerly belonging to the First Church of Christ Scientist located at 924 S. Boulder (10th and Boulder). It consists of the white domed building and, more important for the immediate future, roughly one acre of land and beautiful trees that can provide much needed green space for our campus and classical school.
This is not the First Christian Church building (green dome at 9th and Boulder) that the Cathedral had under contract last year but was unable to purchase–this is a different property, a better one for us.

On Monday June 9th, our inspection period ended, and we closed on the property this morning. This has been made possible, along with the roof, by generous individuals both inside and outside the parish.
Over the past five weeks, we’ve received just over $4M in gifts and pledges towards the roof, the land purchase, and future projects. This $4M in gifts and pledges have come from just 10 individuals. In the near future, there will be an opportunity for the whole parish to contribute as these projects develop and others come into focus.
This has all been approved by Bishop Konderla and the Diocesan Finance Council.
The newly acquired building has a beautiful Romanesque dome and stately Greek columns. The property also has mature trees and a shaded lawn.
We are working with professionals to determine whether the building will suit our long term needs.
With the roof project taking over the west parking lot, there’s an immediate need to convert the new land into space for Holy Family Classical School’s physical education program and for school recess and outdoor lunch. Further, the trees and new grass will provide long needed and desired green space and natural beauty for our students.
That process will begin immediately by cleaning up the lot, replacing asphalt with sod grass, fencing the area, and adding new signage.
From there, we will continue to assess how best to use the white domed building as we plan the next steps in the life of Holy Family Cathedral and Classical School and strive towards our 2023 strategic goal of developing a mission fit campus for our parish and school.
Please pray for the safety of all who will work on these projects and for the intentions of our incredible donors who are making this possible.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. The future is bright at Holy Family Cathedral and Classical School! Come, Holy Spirit!
In Christ,
Fr. Brian O’Brien
Rector, Holy Family Cathedral

In your article you said you are working with professionals to determine if the building will suit long term needs. Shouldn’t this have been done before the property was purchased?

Good question. Yes, Holy Family Classical School’s advisory committee has and continues to receive professional consulatation about the property. While no decisions have been made, the 7,000 sq. ft. basement and the 7,000 sq. ft. church offer many possibilities for classroom and other uses. The two connected parking lots will yield more immediate results: one will provide additional parking for the cathedral, and the other will turn into 20,000 sq. ft. of green space.

Fr. Brian — As someone from outside the Diocese of Tulsa (New Hampshire, here!) please allow me say congratulations to you and the Cathedral parish on the acquisition of the new property. I must say that I admire your leadership, vision, and response to growth in the parish! It is motivating, inspiring, and uplifting to see what all of the good going on there. You are not only building up the Church in Tulsa but all of us as well! May this trajectory continue and may God continue to bless and guide you.
