Crane Operations on Easter Monday & Tuesday will require zero occupancy in the Cathedral

The Cathedral is entering the structural steel installation phase of the roof replacement. To ensure the safety of our community, we are implementing Strict Zero-Occupancy Policy for the Church and Rectory during active hoisting hours. Work begins Monday, April 6th.

Schedule:

  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: The Cathedral is open for 12:05 p.m. Daily Mass.
  • 1:00 p.m. until the end of the day: The Cathedral is closed.

Tuesday, April 7

  • 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.: The Cathedral is open for 7:00 a.m. Daily Mass
  • 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: The Cathedral is closed.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: The Cathedral is open for 12:05 p.m. Daily Mass.
  • 1:00 p.m. until the end of the day: The Cathedral is closed.

1. THE EQUIPMENT

To reach the heights required for our Cathedral roof, the crane on-site will be massive. Please be aware of the scale of this operation:

  • Crane Boom Length: 360 feet (providing a massive swing radius over the campus).

  • Overhaul Ball (Headache Ball): 600 lbs (the weighted metal ball used to lower the hook).

2. MANDATORY VACANCY & DAILY SCHEDULE

Hoisting heavy steel over structures requires that no persons be inside the “fall zone” buildings.

  • Monday, April 6 – Friday, April 10: The Rectory and Church must be entirely vacant daily while work is active.

  • The School Building is SAFE for occupancy: This remains the designated safe zone and primary workspace for all staff.

  • Mass Coordination: To honor our liturgical schedule, all work will begin after 8:00 am, and will cease daily at 11:30 AM. The Church will be safe to enter for the Noon Mass and lunch hour.

  • Afternoon Resumption: Active hoisting (and the vacancy requirement) will resume at 1:00 PM daily until the shift concludes.

3. Restricted Zones & Traffic Control

The following areas are strictly off-limits to all foot and vehicle traffic during hoisting hours:

  • Buildings: Entirety of the Church and Rectory.

  • Entrances: 8th Street north exits; south side Church entry.

  • Outdoor Areas: West Parking Lot (Staging Area) and the sidewalk between the buildings.

  • 8th Street Impact: The sidewalk on 8th Street (between Cheyenne and Boulder) is closed. Additionally, one lane of traffic on 8th Street will be closed during operational hours.
