JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Assistant to the Rector and Special Projects
Status: Full-Time (or Part-Time, depending on need and availability)
Type: Ministerial
Reports to: Holy Family Cathedral Rector
Job Summary: The Assistant to the Rector and Special Projects plays a vital role in supporting the mission and ministry of Holy Family Cathedral by providing administrative and pastoral assistance to the Rector and his Associate Pastor. This individual will serve as a key point of contact for parishioners, staff, vendors, and visitors, ensuring the Rector’s responsibilities are managed efficiently and with a spirit of hospitality, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
- Manage the Rector’s calendar, appointments, and correspondence
- Maintain organized records of parish documents and correspondence
- Prepare agendas, reports, and materials for parish meetings, staff meetings, and clergy gatherings
- Assist the Rector with various parish and school projects
Liturgical & Ministry Support
- Assist the Rector in coordinating liturgical schedules and special liturgies
- Support the planning and execution of parish and diocesan events
Pastoral & Parish Life Coordination
- Maintain a welcoming and responsive presence for parishioners seeking the Rector’s
guidance or assistance - Collaborate with parish staff to ensure consistent communication and smooth operations
- Assist with outreach, spiritual programs, and parish-wide projects as directed
Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing, with a deep respect for the Church’s teachings and liturgical life
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience in church administration, pastoral work, or ministry support
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High degree of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Proficiency with Apple technology and other office software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace); experience with parish management software a plus
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends depending on parish events and liturgical needs
Preferred Characteristics:
- Collaborative and friendly spirit
- Pastoral sensitivity and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
- Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgical practices and calendar
- A proactive, self-motivated approach to problem-solving and follow-through
Compensation:
- Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits may be available based on
employment status.
